EIU to Host Halloween Activities for Area Children, Community

Oct-19-2016

Eastern Illinois University will open its doors to area children in order to provide a fun and safe environment to celebrate Halloween.

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, Greek Court Council and Fraternity and Sorority Programs will host trick-or-treaters from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, in Greek Court, EIU’s on-campus fraternity and sorority housing complex.  Participating chapters will welcome trick-or-treaters at individual houses.

A Halloween-themed children’s carnival will be offered in the “egg” at the center of Greek Court, which is located on the southeast corner of campus, just off of Roosevelt Drive.

On the other side of campus, Halloween arts, crafts and games will take over the lobby of Stevenson Hall, 320 W. Grant Ave., from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Competitive pumpkin painting will be the name of the game in the Thomas Hall lobby, located at 2120 Seventh St., from 6 to 8 p.m.  Not to be outdone, Andrews Hall, 2150 Seventh St., will offer Bozo Buckets and "make-your-own" Blow Pop ghosts in the lobby from 5 to 8 p.m.

Admission to all events is free, but donations will be accepted at Stevenson Hall for the Paradise Equestrian Therapy Center.

Parents are asked to escort their children at all times and wait for escorts to assist them while in the buildings.  Please use separate bags for candy collected at the Stevenson Hall event, Greek Court and off-campus locations.

Other seasonal activities on the EIU campus include the annual Fright Night concert, featuring the Eastern Symphony Orchestra.  This event begins at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, in Dvorak Concert Hall of the Doudna Fine Arts Center.

Admission is $13, general public; $11, EIU employees and seniors; and $5, students.

In addition to movie and superhero themes (including Superman!), the concert will feature three pieces from “Schindler’s List,” with violinist Sharilyn Spicknall, honoring the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting in June.

EIU will also again welcome the Children's Chorus from Jefferson Elementary and Charleston Middle School, a Halloween costume contest, videos, candy and lots of frightening fun!
