EIU Master of Science in Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreations

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the application deadline?

The Exercise Physiology and Sports Administration programs do not have an application deadline.  Students should apply as soon as they determine they are interested in attending.  Depending on your references and transcript delivery, applications can take several weeks or months to complete before the review process can begin.  International students should plan on applying several months in advance to ensure adequate time to complete all of the necessary paperwork.

Is it possible to have my application fee waived?

No, we do not offer fee waivers for the Graduate School application fee.

Are there opportunities for graduate assistantships (GAs) or scholarships?

There are no guarantees on funding to attend graduate school at EIU.  All graduate assistantships (GAs) are awarded on a competitive basis.  When you apply to the university your application includes a box that you can check to indicate your interest in a GA.  However, this is not the same thing as a GA application.  To apply, prospective students must seek out campus units that are hiring GAs. See the KSR Graduate website for further information.  Typically, students interested in a GA should have their application completed in December for GAs starting the following August.

Are there graduate assistantship (GA) opportunities beginning in the spring semester?

Most graduate assistantships (GAs) begin in the fall semester and run through the following spring semester.

Are there scholarship opportunities for incoming graduate students?

No, scholarships are not awarded to incoming students.  A limited number of scholarships are awarded in the spring semester to currently enrolled students.

Do I need to submit official transcripts, or will you accept unofficial transcripts?

Official transcripts must be submitted for review by the EIU Graduate School as well as the KSR department.  The only exception to this rule is for students who earned their undergraduate degree at EIU.

Do I need to take the GRE for admission into the Exercise Physiology or Sports Administration Master’s Programs at EIU?

No.

Do I need to reach out to a faculty member to serve as my advisor?

No, a faculty advisor is not required for admission.  Once on campus, students who are interested in completing a Master’s Thesis will need to secure a commitment from a faculty member to serve as their advisor.

Do I have to complete a Master’s Thesis?

No, students do not have to complete a Master’s Thesis in order to complete the degree.  Students interested in research or those who will potentially pursue a PhD are strongly encouraged to complete a Master’s Thesis.

Is the Master’s in Exercise Physiology program a STEM-designated course?

No.

My undergraduate education was delivered in English.  Do I still need to submit my TOEFL scores?

Please contact EIU’s Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) at international@eiu.edu.
