EIU Office of International Students and Scholars

Undergraduate Cost of Study

All international students must prove a minimum amount of money to study at EIU for one academic year (two semesters). These costs will appear on Form I-20 or DS-2019.

The approximate cost for the 2019-2020 academic year of study (August to May) are as follows:

Tuition: Undergraduate tuition and Scholarship amount is based on enrollment 12 credit hours per semester. Cost per credit hour is $378.00.

Fees: See link for fee description. Fee costs are subject to change depending on number of courses taken.

Living Expenses: These are estimated for single student only. You should allow $5,525.00 per year for your spouse and $2,000.00 per year for each child to pay for their food, housing, medical care, and other miscellaneous expenses.

International Student Scholarship: Maximum awards are $3000 per semester for undergraduate students. More information can be found here.

Undergraduate International Excellence Awards: These are calculated on in-state tuition rates ($1728 per year). More information can be found here.


OISS reminds students that your current health insurance policy may provide some benefits while attending EIU. If you do not have insurance or if your insurance does not fully cover you during this time, we strongly recommend that you purchase a comprehensive health insurance plan. Costs for insurance plans will vary depending on amount and length of coverage.


While pursuing a second bachelor's degree, you will be assessed tuition and fees at the graduate student rate. These rates can be viewed here.
