On-Campus Employment

Visa regulations allow for International Students to work up to 20 hours per week on-campus. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WORK OFF-CAMPUS except in very specialized circumstances or if the work is part of their Optional Practical Training (OPT) or Curricular Practical Training (CPT). If you have questions or would like to make an appointment, please call the Office of International Students and Scholars at (217) 581-2321.

Summer Rules for International Students:

If the International Student is enrolled in summer classes, the student is limited to 20 hours per week by the Department of Homeland Security. When their summer classes are over, the International student can work up to 56 hours per pay period, all jobs combined.  If not enrolled in summer, the institutional maximum of 56 hours per pay period, all jobs combined, applies.
