The IACUC consists of at least five members, and its membership meets the composition requirements set forth in the PHS Policy at IV.A.3.b. The membership shall include, but not be limited to, the chairperson, a veterinarian, a practicing scientist experienced in research involving animals, a member whose primary concerns are in a nonscientific area, and an individual who is not affiliated with the University other than as a member of the IACUC and who is not a member of the immediate family of a person affiliated with the University. An individual who meets the requirements of more than one of the foregoing categories may fulfill more than one requirement. A majority of the voting membership of the IACUC constitutes a quorum and is required in order to convene a meeting for the review of research protocols. Each IACUC member is appointed by the Institutional Official, who will select members in consultation with the IACUC chair and/or the Director of Research and Sponsored Programs.
