FACILITATING SUCCESS THROUGH EQUAL ACCESS
The mission of the Office of Accessibility & Accommodations is to ensure that qualified students with disabilities are afforded an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from the academic programs, services, and activities offered by Eastern Illinois University. We strive to facilitate the removal of existing barriers through individual consultation, reasonable accommodations, the provision of auxiliary aids and services, strategic partnerships, and consistent outreach across campus.
Reasonable Accommodation Analysis
The purpose of the accommodation process is to ensure students are not discriminated against and have the same level of access to EIU as their peers. The goal is equal access and equal opportunity, not to facilitate a specific accommodation.
Requesting Accommodations
Requesting accommodations from the Office of Accessibility & Accommodations (OAA) is a three-part process:
1. Self-identification
2. Providing disability information/documentation
3. Intake interview
Accommodation Letter Procedures
Each semester, students must log in to the A&A portal to send accommodation letters to their instructors. Visit this page for full instructions and important deadlines.
Academic Accommodation
In order to evaluate academic accommodation and service requests, the Office of Accessibility and Accommodations will need information regarding:
- That you have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity.
- How your disability is likely to impact you here at Eastern Illinois University.
Housing Accommodation (Non-ESA)
Eastern Illinois University is committed to providing reasonable accommodations in University Housing so that all students can fully participate in campus living.
Emotional Support Animals
Emotional support animals must receive official University Housing approval before coming to campus.
