Alpha Epsilon Delta was initially established on April 28, 1926, by a group of dedicated pre-medical students at the University of Alabama. By 1930, the organization consisted of five chapters and held its first national convention. In 1962, the society became nationally recognized as a non-profit, educational organization. The Illinois Theta Chapter of Eastern Illinois University became a national charter member of the AED society on May 5, 1977. We were the 35th member initiated during the 32nd national convention. On May 21, 1998, the Illinois Theta chapter received the 500 member award, an award that acknowledges chapters whose membership have reached the 500 member mark.
The Illinois Theta chapter of AED is the active pre-medical society at Eastern Illinois University. As members, we would like to welcome you to the university and invite you to participate in some of our chapter activities. Though officially listed as a premedical society, our chapter of AED welcomes students interested in all health-related fields (nursing, dentistry, chiropractic medicine, optometry, veterinary medicine, etc.)
AED offers guidance to students through entrance exam preparation, entrance essay review, and opportunities to speak with local health professionals. In addition, students are encouraged to participate in the chapter’s philanthropic and social functions to build both character and camaraderie with peers.
Although official induction into Alpha Epsilon Delta requires upper-class standing, all EIU pre-health professional students are encouraged to participate in chapter activities. We hope to see you during your time at Eastern Illinois University. Good luck!
