Why do employers desperately want to hire applicants with history degrees? How does a history degree provide the real-world skills needed to succeed in a variety of careers? Every Spring semester the History Department holds its annual History Careers Day (visit our departmentnews blog for photos and information from the 2014 event), during which our majors learn the answers to these and other questions. Panelists always include current faculty and students, and distinguished alumni who talk about how their history degrees provided them a leg up on the job market upon graduation and the real-world skills that have allowed them to build highly successful careers. This year's History Careers Day will be held on February 18, 2016.
Career Services offers workshops on interviewing and job search strategies. Visit their office, and especially their career counselors such as Bobbi Kingery, Career Counselor - College of Arts and Humanities, for great tips on how to market your research and writing skills.
