EIU Department of Geology and Geography

About the Department

Welcome to the Department of Geology and Geography.  Our department is made up of two separate academic disciplines:

Geology and Geography.

If you want to know which is right for you, enroll in one or more of our courses your first or second semester at EIU.  All of them count for BOTH general education credit and credit towards a geology and/or geography degree:

  • Cultural Geography (GEO 1100G)
  • The Natural Environment (GEO1120G)
  • World Regional Geography (GEO 1200G)
  • Introduction to Earth Science (GEO 1300G)
  • Weather & Climate (GEO 1400G)
  • Oceanography (GEO 2450G)
  • Environmental Physical Sciences (GEO 3010G)

Our classes are generally small in order to provide students a better chance to work with our professors and instructors.  We have state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment that are essential to the future career path our students will take.  The department coordinates internship opportunities and provides numerous scholarships for students who excel in their studies.
