Faculty Senate

The goal of the Faculty Senate and the Councils is to represent faculty in the shared governance of the university, in the best interests of the university, its students and employees.

About Us 

The Faculty Senate, along with the Council on Academic Affairs (CAA), the Council on Graduate Studies (CGS), the Council on Teacher Education (COTE), and the Council on Faculty Research (CFR), constitute the comprehensive shared governance system of Eastern Illinois University.

The goal of the Faculty Senate and the Councils is to represent faculty in the shared governance of the university, in the best interests of the university, its students and employees.

The Faculty Senate represents faculty in all matters affecting the welfare of the university, except in matters within the scope of collective bargaining as determined by Regulations for Collective Bargaining by Academic Employees, or where limited by relevant law. CAA, CGS, COTE, and CFR represent faculty on issues of curriculum and programs, as stated in their respective by-laws.

Dr. Sheila Simons is the recipient of the 2020 Luis Clay Mendez Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Don Holly is the recipient of the 2021 Distinguished Faculty Award.

Meetings AY 2021-2022

Meetings will be held in the Witters Conference Room in Booth Library on the dates listed below. Teams meetings will be held in tandem with the Witters Conference Room meetings in order to accommodate senators unable to be physically present. Meetings begin at 2:00 p.m.

Fall 2021: 8/31, 9/14, 9/28, 10/12, 1026, 11/9, and 11/30

Spring 2022: 1/18, 2/1, 2/15, 3/1, 3/22, 4/5, and 4/19
