Career Paths for English Majors:

College Student Services

Luis AlarconAmong college administrators, some specialize in working with students (in admissions, housing, Greek life, etc.) People who specialize in college student services often pursue a graduate degree in College Student Affairs. In addition to the alumni featured here, other graduates of EIU English who have pursued careers in college student services hold positions like Student Services Adviser and Residence Hall Coordinator.

Megan MarcinThe employment outlook: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2014 there were 175,100 people working as college administrators managing college student services. The field is projected to grow by 9% through 2024. *

Does this sound like you? Like college teachers, student services professionals are committed to the growth and education of college students. They need strong organizational and communication skills. Creativity and leadership are also essential.
