July 8, 2010 Chapter Meeting Minutes
At the July 8, 10 Chapter Meeting in the Neal Welcome Center, Jayne Ozier, EIUAA President awarded certificates attesting to the Chapter's gratitude to the following outgoing Chapter officers for their generous service to the Association: Dale Wolf (for service as EIU Annuitants Association President ); Ron Wohlstein (for service as Treasurer); and Jane Johnson (for service as Secretary. Linda Brookhart, Executive Director of the State Universities Annuitants Association (SUAA) provided comprehensive information regarding University employees and retirees pension. She noted that SUAA has had a "good relationship with SURS" for some time and will continue to do so during the tenure of SURS' new Executive Director William Mabe. She reminded her audience that the "pension overhaul" passed in April (Public Act 96-0889) will reduce the pensions of new hires. Pensions of current employees while it is Constitutionally guaranteed may be targeted in the future, she cautioned, noting that pressure in that direction is being exerted upon legislators by the Civic Club of Chicago. She added that Senator (and gubernatorial candidate) Bill Brady has introduced legislation to change our pension system from a defined benefit to a defined contribution
