Food Insecurity

Food insecurity is the inadequate access to sufficient food or adequate quality of food to meet one's basic basic needs. Healthy People 2030 indicates that 13.8 million households were impacted by food insecurity at some point in 2020. College age students are particularly vulnerable when it come to food access. The following resources are for our on-campus/local students to help them battle food insecurity

Charleston Area Churches Food Pantry

  • Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM & Thursday: 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Other: Individuals must live in Coles County, can visit this pantry every 30 days as needed.

Carpenters Table a Leg of Standing Stone

  • Address: 375 North 14th Street, Charleston, IL 61920
  • Hours: Wednesday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM & Saturday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Other: People in need of food can participate once every two weeks.

Catholic Charities of Coles, Douglas, and Edgar Counties

  • Other: Provides local services including clothing assistance, food pantry, housewares assistance, furniture assistance, Med Assist, and Medical Equipment Loan Program.

The Salvation Army of Coles County

  • Client Choice food pantry Hours: Monday – Thursday 9-3pm, Friday 9am-12:30pm
  • Other: provides a wide range of social services in Coles and surrounding counties, including food, clothing, utility, and housing assistance, transient and disaster services. Clients can receive food through the pantry every 30 days as needed.

  • Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 1:30-3:30pm, Thursday 6-7:30pm
  • Other: Clients that meet the IL Department of Human Services income guidelines are eligible to receive food once every 30 days
