The art history area at EIU offers a flexible and comprehensive bachelor's degree that provides students with expanded knowledge of a wide range of art periods and world cultures. Aside from the required survey courses, advanced courses allow students to study in-depth:

    • Modern and Contemporary Art
    • Graphic Design
    • Architecture
    • Graphic Narratives
    • African Art
    • American Art
    • Asian Art
    • Baroque and Renaissance Art
    • Medieval Art
    • Greek and Roman Art
    • Women in Art

Art history at EIU provides extensive integrative learning experiences through the interdisciplinary context of lecture presentations, study abroad, field trips to galleries and art museums, and a close, on-campus relationship with the Tarble Arts Center. While working toward the bachelor's degree, students will gain an understanding of art history theory and insight into the work of curating, archiving and critiquing art in museums and galleries.

The art history program is located on the first floor of the new Doudna Fine Arts Center, just to the west of the Dvorak Concert Hall. The area features a combined seminar room & computer study area, digital media lab, and art historian faculty offices.
