    The purpose of these scholarships is to attract academically talented students to attend Eastern Illinois University and to provide financial assistance to an Eastern Illinois University student taking course work in Sociology, Anthropology, or Criminology-Criminal Justice.

    ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

    The recipient(s) must be a full-time student majoring in Sociology or Criminology-Criminal Justice and accepted to Eastern Illinois University. They must have completed at least 18 hours in Sociology, Anthropology or Criminology- Criminal Justice coursework to be eligible for this scholarship. Carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and a major GPA of at least 3.0. The recipient(s) must have demonstrated responsibility by working part-time to support their college studies; and/or regularly volunteering with a service organization (university or community). The recipient(s) must have demonstrated excellence in writing by submitting a quality research paper that was written for a course within the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology. Finally, the recipient(s) must submit a resume detailing his/her qualifications for the award.

    STAN, DEE AND MEAGEN BRADEN SCHOLARSHIP

    The recipient must be a full-time Junior or first semester Senior, majoring in Sociology, and accepted to Eastern Illinois University. They must have at least 30 hours of Sociology completed or being completed during the semester the award is made. Must have at least one semester full-time (12 semester hours minimum) to complete following with an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and a major GPA of at least 3.0. The recipient(s) must have demonstrated responsibility by working part-time as a matter of support or paying college expenses; and/or participating regularly in a service organization (university or community) or serving as a volunteer for community service or improvement. Submit a quality research paper that was written for a Sociology course. Finally, the recipient(s) must submit a resume detailing his/her qualifications for the award.

    RICHARD AND KATHY HUMMEL SOCIOLOGY-ANTHROPOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP

    The recipient(s) must be a full-time Junior or first semester Senior, majoring in Sociology­Anthropology and accepted to Eastern Illinois University. They must have at least 30 hours of Sociology-Anthropology completed or being completed during the semester the award is being made. The recipient(s) must have at least one semester full-time (12 semester hours minimum) to complete following receipt of the award and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and a major GPA of at least 3.0. The recipient(s) must have demonstrated responsibility by working part-time as a matter of support or paying college expenses; and/or participating regularly in a service organization (university or community) or serving as a volunteer for community service or improvement. The recipient(s) must have demonstrated excellence in writing by submitting a quality research paper that was written for a Sociology course and must submit a resume detailing his/her qualifications for the award.

    ROBERT L. AND LUZ M. WHITTENBARGER SOCIOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP

    The recipient shall be a full-time student, majoring in Sociology, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. The recipient must have completed at least 9 semester hours of credit in Sociology at the time of selection. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 and a major GPA of at least 3.00 at the time of selection, with the award given to the applicant with the highest major GPA and financial need shall be a primary consideration. Only one award is intended to be given. In the case of two or more students who equally qualify, the Selection Committee shall base the decision on the student with the greatest number of completed semester hours in the Sociology major.

    Payment: The award(s) shall be announced in the Spring and paid in the Fall to Eastern Illinois University to be first applied against costs (tuition, fees, housing, etc.) associated with the recipient(s) attending Eastern Illinois University. Any remaining amount will be disbursed to the recipient(s).
