At Eastern Illinois University there are a variety of multimedia services provided to the faculty and staff. These services provide the capability to enhance the learning experience of the students as well as create interactive media to assist in the learning process.
Assistance is provided to EIU faculty who require media support in their online D2L environment. Kaltura is used by EIU to provide streaming capabilities as well as lecture capture to faculty who need to provide media to their students in a password-protected environment. Kaltura can be used through D2L or Kaltura Media Spaces. Analog-to-digital encoding services are also provided with delivery of the final product through Kaltura or via DVD.
We assist departments with closed captioning their videos, both for public viewing, and for classrooms where there may be a student who is hearing-impaired.
In order to keep up with the ever-changing world of technology, we investigate concepts of how media is utilized within and without higher education, and how the many facets of media are interwoven with each other. We find the most effective means of helping to incorporate these concepts into our support of the EIU campus. Part of this research involves understanding trends and developments in marketing and PR. We also investigate and research grants to help with funding creative endeavors to fund media-related projects.
We provide a variety of equipment and technology hardware, available for checkout to EIU staff, students and faculty at the GTC. This also includes the use of our labs and stations as well as the soundproof booth, all available at the GTC.
In all areas we support, we also offer faculty, staff and departments consultation services whether they wish to do media-related projects on their own, need assistance with their projects, or want to find out what services can be provided. We will help them in whatever capacity they desire.
Our six editing stations consist of MacPro desktop computers with iMovie, Adobe CS (including Premiere) which are software perfect for editing footage. In addition, miniDV/DVD decks, professional scanners, webcams, and Snowflake microphones are available. A WACOM Intuos graphic tablet is also available.
The soundproof booth provides an environment in which an iMac computer equipped with an iSight camera and microphone can be used to record voice, computer screen, and/or computer camera visuals while virtually eliminating background noise.

Our primary focus is on marketing and recruitment based videos. We also provide consultation services to enable departments and individuals to produce their own video content of classroom activities, events and conferences.
