Eastern Illinois University has received two press
releases this afternoon from the Charleston Police Department (CPD).
A Charleston Police Department press release received
involves a report of a female having been sexually assaulted. According to the CPD, the victim reported
that on Saturday, April 27, 2013 she was forced into non-consensual sex with
multiple men while she was attending a house party. Suspects have been identified, but no arrests
have been made at this time. No names
have been released by CPD. This incident
is currently being investigated. We will
update you as we learn more about the incident.
The second press release involves an incident that took
place in Charleston late Monday night.
The crime was committed off campus, and the known suspect was
apprehended shortly thereafter.
According to a Charleston Police Department press release received this
afternoon, officers responded to the area of 2nd and Pierce regarding a fight
in progress involving a firearm. While officers were present, they heard
two shots fired in the area. Further investigation and a brief foot
pursuit by officers led to the arrest of an individual with no connection to
the University. There were no injuries
reported during this incident.
