Subject: Academy of Lifetime Learning Call for Workshops and Courses

Dear EIU Faculty and Staff members,

The School of Continuing Education's Academy of Lifetime Learning staff has begun our program planning for Spring and Summer 2013. We are looking for interesting workshops and courses to provide our membership of adults age 50 and over. The Academy has over 1000 members and through a survey they have indicated that their main areas of interest are history, current events, arts, humanities, and health. Popular courses include those on writing, World War II, Civil War, pottery, painting, weaving, international relations and more. Our members enjoy interactive courses and new experiences. There is no homework for you to grade; just an enjoyable experience sharing your knowledge and interacting with bright, interesting and informed students.

Your expertise is so valuable whether it is knowledge you have gained through education, experience or through personal interest and inquiry. Consider what it is you enjoy speaking about and submit a proposal to share your knowledge and interest using the linked form. We are asking if you would be willing to share your expertise in either a 1.5 hour workshop format or in a course format which consists of 3-4, 1.5 hour sessions. Our cost to the participant per session is $20 and you receive a full 60% of the proceeds for your services. We also ask that instructors participate in a Program Showcase in January, where we will have presentation tables set and you will introduce your topic to visitors to your table.

You will notice that on this proposal form we are asking more about you and your expertise. We are doing this to showcase how EIU's lifetime learning program provides excellent learning opportunities by highly qualified instructors. We will share this information on our website descriptions of the courses.

Your proposal will be reviewed by the Academy Curriculum Committee based on the following criteria: does it fit within the subject areas requested by our members as outlined above, is the information complete and lastly does the instructor have expertise in the subject area? We are eager to read your proposals and look forward to interesting and fun learning experiences in Spring and Summer 2013.

If you are interested in teaching for the Academy please submit the form to academy@eiu.edu prior to October 5, 2012.

Respectfully,
