Subject: UPDATE: Status of Security Investigation. Website/Phone Lines Established

A website (http://www.eiu.edu/notice/) has been created to provide accurate and up-to-date information to those Eastern Illinois University employees/former employees affected by the recent release of material via shredded documents.

In addition, a toll-free number (877-678-6082) has also been established to answer any questions that employees may have regarding the release. The phone line will be available between 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. today (Friday, April 22), and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until further notice.

Beginning next week, employees/former employees determined to be directly affected by the material release will begin receiving personalized letters with the above information.

As reported earlier, university officials have now determined that shredded documents taken from campus and released improperly contained information – including names and social security numbers – of persons employed at the university between 2001 and 2004. The bulk of the information deals with those employed in 2002. All the information is that of “status employees” or those who, in general, worked full time.

However, credit monitoring services will be offered to all those employed at EIU from 2000 to 2005.

In general, no student information was compromised. However, information related to tuition waivers for employees and possibly their dependents may have been included in the compromised material for the same periods.
