Subject: UPDATE: Status of Security Investigation

We want to update you regarding the status of our investigation into the release of data contained in the coarsely shredded documents. After combing through the material recovered, it appears that the bulk of the information came from 2002, with small amounts also related to 2001, 2003 and 2004. The only confidential data compromised was employee names and social security numbers.

In general, no student information was compromised. However, information related to tuition waivers for employees and possibly their dependents may have been included in the compromised material for the same periods.

We believe that we have been able to recover most, if not all, of the material taken. To date, we have had no reports of any inappropriate use of the compromised data.

Material from 2000 and 2005 was also being shredded at the time that the two bags of material were taken from the Records Management area. We have not found that any of the material from 2000 or 2005 was compromised. Although we do not believe that any material from either of these years was compromised, we will include employees from these two years in any offer of credit monitoring services because we understand the level of concern that exists.

We are currently in the process of preparing individual notifications to each person employed during the 2000 to 2005 period to inform than how to obtain credit monitoring services, if so desired.

Shortly, we will have a toll-free number established to answer any questions that employees may have regarding the release, and we will be posting information to a website to provide accurate information to those involved.
