Subject: D2L Email Conversion

Hello All:

The faculty have spoken, and we have listened.

In May, we conducted a survey asking faculty for their preferences on email communication with students. We received an overwhelming number of responses. Based on faculty responses, 82.5% prefer to use Panthermail to communicate with students compared to D2L email, and 82% would prefer to have Panthermail integrated within D2L.

As a result, Panthermail will be integrated within D2L, but this conversion will not occur until May 2022 after spring term ends.

After the conversion, users will still be able to send email from D2L but cannot receive email in D2L. Messages sent from D2L will automatically be sent to the recipient’s Panthermail account. The recipient would then reply in Panthermail and the reply would be saved in Panthermail. The original email sent from D2L would be saved in the user’s Sent folder in D2L. There will not be an inbox in D2L email after the conversion.

So, how can you prepare for this conversion?

· Decide when to start using Panthermail: If your current method of communication with students is D2L email, decide when you want to start using Panthermail. You may want to use Panthermail as your primary method of email communication beginning with Spring term or if you prefer, you can wait until after the conversion in May.

· Email forwarding in D2L: If you want to save copies of email sent to you in D2L between now and the conversion, you may want to set up email forwarding in D2L. Email forwarding will forward any email received in D2L to your Panthermail account where you can retain a copy. (You would still need to reply to the email in D2L.) How to set up email forwarding in D2L.

· Save messages received in D2L: If you have received messages in D2L email that you want to save, you can move those messages to the Sent folder in D2L. (Messages must be moved to the Sent folder and not subfolders. The subfolders will not be retained after the conversion.) D2L has informed us that all messages moved to the Sent folder (including messages received) will remain in the Sent folder after the conversion. Alternatively, you can print or save individual email messages as PDF files. How to move messages received in D2L to the Sent Folder.
