Subject: Duo MFA Onboarding - Required September 21, 2021
I am excited to let you know EIU has partnered with Duo Security Multifactor Authentication (MFA) to offer enhanced security for your EIU account. Higher education has become an attractive target for attackers, with most security incidents beginning by gaining access to a single user’s account.
Duo MFA can help prevent these attackers from gaining access to your account and has already successfully stopped attacks at EIU. Soon, you will receive an email invitation with the subject of "Duo Security Enrollment" from the email address "no-reply@duosecurity.com". When you have time, please follow the instructions within the email. Duo MFA will be required for all employees on Sept. 21, 2021. After Sept. 20, anyone not registered will see the Duo MFA setup as part of the sign-in process.
Duo Security Options Explained
With Duo, you will sign in into your service, such as Panthermail, Banner, VPN, or D2L. You will then receive a prompt to complete your Duo Multifactor. You can do this via the Duo app, a phone call, or by using a YubiKey. After completing the Duo MFA process, your sign-in process will continue into the service you're accessing. This process prevents attackers from getting into your account. The second factor (Duo App, call, YubiKey) is something you have, while the attacker does not. If you see a sign-in attempt and it was not you, you can deny access and change your password right away. With Duo, you can even choose the "Remember me for 30 days" option so you do not have to complete the process every time on commonly used devices.

The first step of the process is to have ITS enroll you as a Duo Mobile user in its system. Once enrolled, we suggest logging on to EIU's website on a computer and accessing Panthermail.; After entering in your NetID and password, you should see an enrollment setup prompt.

It's easy to sign up! Download the “Duo Mobile” Security app from your phone's app store. The Duo Mobile app is great for getting the most information about the sign in. The app will inform you of the location of the sign in so you can verify you were the one signing on.
