Subject: Understanding your EIU NetID and Email

Your NetID is the account to access most resources while at Eastern Illinois University. With your NetID you can check your student account, email, calendar, access online storage with OneDrive, and even download Microsoft Office while you are at EIU.

You will set your password at https://password.eiu.edu and will be required to change your password at least once a year. Do not give your password to anyone, EIU will never ask for your password in email, over the phone or in person.

Your NetID usually has your first initial, middle initial, last name and may also have a number to make your account unique. If your legal name has changed, please request a name change with the registrar office. Your account will be updated to reflect this change.

Be aware of suspicious emails. Evaluate any message with caution that involved emotion, authority, or urgency. Check https://eiu.edu/verify for official email communications. If something appears strange, report them to phishing@eiu.edu.

You will have access to your EIU account for 1 year after graduation or last class taken. At this time, your account will be disabled and then deleted. Your access to Microsoft Office will be discontinued as well. If you return to the university, you will be given the same NetID. Please look at our Life Cycle Policy for further clarification at https://www.eiu.edu/panthertech/policies/lifecycle.php.
