Subject: Find out how Help Desk and ISS can help you...

The Information Technology Services Help Desk is available to assist students, faculty, and staff in troubleshooting computer issues — essentially, hardware and software-related problems they’re experiencing with EIU-provided computers. The Help Desk can also assist with:

• Password resets
• Wi-Fi connectivity issues
• Microsoft Office-related issues
• EIU-provided applications such as Panthermail, PAWS, D2L, Banner, Argos, etc. This includes guiding users through various solutions for problems they encounter while utilizing these EIU-supported applications.

While the Help Desk is happy to provide your students with helpful resources, we want them to understand we are not able to complete homework assignments for them or implement long-term training for software they may be required to use in specific courses. Software-specific tutorial resources are available elsewhere on EIU’s website (https://www.eiu.edu/lynda/ and https://www.eiu.edu/kalturasolutions/) as well as via Google and YouTube searches.

Your academic area has an assigned instructional support specialist (ISS) who can assist with technical questions concerning instructional technologies like D2L. Faculty members may reach out directly to the appropriate individuals or contact the Help Desk (581-HELP or support@eiu.edu), which will direct requests for assistance to the assigned ISS.

The Faculty Development and Innovation Center (FDIC) offers faculty members assistance with instructional design for all course modalities and can help faculty members explore new tools that will enhance the classroom experience as well as research/creative activity. The FDIC provides consultations for those faculty members interested in creating/refreshing an online, hybrid, or face-to-face course and also continues to assist in developing faculty members’ skills through workshops, webinars, and online teaching certification resources.

For those needing support on their personal computers or devices, the Union Tech Zone, located within the University Union Bookstore, features a dedicated staff to answer questions about or make repairs to non-EIU provided machines.
