Subject: Active Courses in D2L

At last count, there were 6,450 active courses in D2L from Fall 2012 to Fall 2015.  When a course is active, it is still accessible to the students enrolled in the course.  Because there are often different start dates for courses each semester and not all instructors use D2L, the instructor has the ability to make the course active.  However, many instructors have not made their courses inactive at the end of the semester.

Therefore on Tuesday, June 14, I will be making all courses in D2L from Fall 2012 to Fall 2015 inactive.  At that time, you will still have access to the courses but the students will not.  This is only for courses associated with a semester.  Other D2L courses such as those used for groups, departments, or course development not associated with a semester will not be affected.

If for some reason you want your students to be able to access your old courses from Fall 2012 to Fall 2015, you will need to set your course to active after June 14 or contact me and I will make it active for you.

Moving forward, we will automatically make all courses inactive at the beginning of the second semester after the course was offered.  For example, Spring 2016 courses will be made inactive at the beginning of Fall 2016.  This will allow an extra semester for incompletes, etc.  If you want student access to your course to end before that time, you will need to make your course inactive as is our current practice.
