You have been asked to participate because you represent the general population of minority students at Eastern Illinois University and have completed or are currently enrolled in a mathematics course at Eastern. If you volunteer to participate in this study, you are encouraged to read each question carefully and answer to the best of your knowledge. Individual responses obtained in connection with this study will remain confidential and you will receive and ID or pseudonym to ensure confidentiality in the study. The survey will take on average 5-10 minutes to complete.
Participation in this research study is entirely voluntary and not a requirement or a condition for being the recipient of benefits or services from Eastern Illinois University or any other organization sponsoring the research project. If you decide to participate in this study, you may withdraw at any time without consequences. The extent of your involvement in this research includes the completion of this survey. The information you provide in the survey will be presented at the National Council for Undergraduate Research (NCUR).
There are no perceived or anticipated risks or discomfort involved in participating in this study. In addition, there are no incentives or compensation that will be received by participating in this study. However, the benefits from your participation will assist the researchers in building student-faculty relationship to increase the performance of minority college students in mathematics; focusing on areas of self efficacy, persistence, establishing networks of support, and mentoring .
