Whether you are a new student or a returning student… welcome home! We are so very pleased to have you at Eastern Illinois University, and we look forward to watching you learn and grow during your years here. Your safety is always our utmost concern. In the event of an emergency, EIU will activate the University’s Campus Emergency Notification System. A key component of this system is the Alert EIU text message system. Alert EIU text messages are only sent in emergency situations that are considered to represent a serious or continuing threat to students and employees. If you are not already registered for the Alert EIU text message system, I encourage you to do so by going to the Alert EIU website at http://www.eiu.edu/alerteiu/.
The University's Campus Emergency Notification System also includes an emergency notification email system, a siren/public address system, a phone tree that notifies key individuals about an emergency so that they can post the information in accessible locations for public awareness, and radio and television announcements.
