Laura Smith
I have over 13 years experience working in the Housing & Dining Department.  I have held several positions such as Supervisor at the Food Court, Food Service Worker III, and my current position as Clerk at Taylor Dining Hall Kitchen. For several years prior to being employed at EIU I worked as extra help in Blair Hall in the graduate office and I also worked in the Testing office.  I am also a graduate of The Leading Edge program.  I feel that these different positions have given me the opportunity both for personal and professional growth experiences with the public and fellow EIU staff. As I interact with EIU, I hear of issues and concerns.   I have the strengths and ability to address issues needed to help, improve, and strive for the best at EIU. I have professional relationships with several department heads and their staffs to discuss what EIU employees are concerned with.  I am also involved strongly with the Civil Service Council.  I am the current treasurer and the chair for the Public Relations committee.  I feel that where I stand in the Council that I could be a great asset to the EAC committee to bring the concerns to them and help make EIU a stronger, more informed university.  My passion is EIU and I want the best for the university.

I have been working at Eastern Illinois University as a status Carpenter in (R&A) Renovations and Alterations since March 2008. During that time I have had the opportunity to work on countless renovation projects on campus both for and with many wonderful people in the campus community.  Through my employment at Eastern I have completed my graduate and post graduate education and the EIU Training and Development program The Leading Edge.  I served on the GSAC (Graduate Student Advisory Committee) August 2011-May 2014 and on the CUPB (Council for University Planning and Budget) August 2013-May 2014.  If chosen, I would like to see the same opportunities that I have been provided continue to be offered to all who serve the university. I believe for the Civil Service System to be successful, a balance must be maintained between managerial policies and opportunities for personal growth. Where possible, I would like to clarify or resolve conflicting language between those who work under multiple contracts.

I am a native of Charleston and have worked at EIU in Information Technology Services (ITS) for over nine years. I am a graduate of Lake Land College and Eastern Illinois University. I have completed the Leading Edge program offered through the Office and Training and Development. I have worked in several different areas of ITS, under several different Civil Service classifications. I currently work in the User Services area and my position is Program Assistant. Prior to coming to EIU, I was a Certified Optician for 25 years, working in multiple ophthalmology offices. In my positions, I have and continue to work with many employees and students across campus.  I am currently serving on Civil Service Council and have served several terms on Staff Senate. I welcome the opportunity to work with all civil service employees across campus to represent them to the Advisory Committee.

Beth Kastl
I began my career at EIU in 2000 working in the Benefit Services office where knowledge of the State University Civil Service Rules, Regulations and Policies were a crucial part of the job. I then moved to the Journalism department in 2006 and I currently work as an Office Administrator. I have a proven ability to work with students, staff, faculty, and administration both on and off campus. I bring a competent understanding of the state university policies and regulations for both negotiated and non-negotiated employees. I recently completed my bachelor's degree, allowing me additional time to dedicate to this position.  This position allows me to serve as the liaison between you, the employees, and the Civil Service system. I will work with other campus committees and organizations to connect with as many employees as possible. This position will allow me the opportunity to help all EIU civil service employees resolve any issues or concerns. I am willing to listen to you and your issues and do my very best for all civil service employees here on the EIU campus.
