SERVICE

NRHH puts on a large Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser in September. The goal of this fundraiser is to raise awareness through the Eastern Illinois University student body population and to raise money for local organizations. These organizations were chosen due to the assistance they provide and the enormous impact they make on individuals within the local community. This fundraiser starts with the selling of T-shirts, designed by the NRHH Secretary with assistance from the NRHH Executive Board and the General Body Members. For one week during the month of September, NRHH members sell these shirts throughout Eastern Illinois University’s campus. There is also a dunk tank in the south quad on the final day of the week of T-Shirt sales to raise additional funds for this cause.

Along with the above fundraising effort, NRHH also coordinates a fundraiser during the spring semester. For this fundraiser, all proceeds go towards University Housing scholarships.

NRHH coordinates one large service project per semester to serve the Charleston community and surrounding communities. The fall semester program is “Winter Wonderland”, which provides a Christmas experience for children from the local community who might not have that experience otherwise. The spring semester program has changed throughout the past few years.

NRHH members must have 15 service hours per semester to stay active in the organization. While helping with these fundraisers counts, NRHH members are involved in various other service opportunities throughout the academic year on Eastern Illinois University's campus and for the surrounding communities. Our fall and spring leadership retreats now have a community service component.

NRHH has also become the first organization at Eastern Illinois University to “Adopt-A- Block” in the Charleston Community. “Adopt-A-Block “allows NRHH members to be engaged specifically in the Charleston community by conducting street and neighborhood cleanup on a specific location in the Charleston community. There are numerous times throughout each month that the NRHH chapter Historian coordinates these efforts and NRHH members sign up to participate. NRHH members are required to participate in two “Adopt-A-Block” sessions each academic semester.
