Introduced to EIU Dining in Fall 2026, if you are getting your meal to-go, you will pick up your food in a free reusable container instead of single-use packaging. Grab your meal in a free reusable container and skip the waste! Making a positive impact just got easier. Reusables To-Go Containers are exclusive to South Quad and Stevenson Tower Dining. 

How does it work?

  1. Choose a reusable container at South Quad or Stevenson Tower Dining.
  2. *Use your Panther card or credit/debit card at checkout. No charge if you return it on time. *If you plan to use your Panther Card, you must have a minimum of $8 in Dining Dollars on your account.
  3. Enjoy your food in a durable, leakproof container.
  4. Return it within 5 days at any Smart Return Bin™ located in South Quad Dining. Or scan it in and put on tray return at Tower Dining - completely free.

FAQs

What happens if I don't return the container on time?
On the 6th day, $8 will be charged for the unreturned container. If you bring it back within the next 30 days, you'll be issued a full refund.
Are reusable containers safe to use?
Yes. Every container goes through a strict commercial sanitization process - the same standard as the plates and cutlery at any restaurant.
What if I need a sick meal to-go?
Since the sick meals will be in a reusable container, you will need to download the Reusables App and link your account. The app will generate a QR code that you can share with whomever is picking up your meal so that you can check out the container to them. Click link for more information on sick meals.
What if I don't have enough funds on my Panther card?
To check out a Reusable To-Go Container, you need to have a minimum balance of $8 on your Panther card or debit/credit card. You can check your Panther card balance multiple ways. You can ask a checker when swiping at the Dining Centers, download the Grubhub App to see the remaining balance or you can ask at the front desk of the Housing & Dining office. 
How do I reload my Dining Dollars on my Panther card?
You can reload your Dining Dollars by visiting the Housing & Dining Office in-person, located in the Human Services Building (Floor 1). You can also reload Dining Dollars online by visiting our website. If reloading online, please allow 24-72 hours. *Dining Dollar addition minimum is $25. After that, they can be purchased in $5 increments. 
What if I find a Reusables To-Go Container around campus?
You can return a Reusables To-Go Container at either South Quad or Stevenson Tower Dining locations. South Quad Dining has a return bin on both the Lawson and Taylor sides of the Dining Center. Stevenson Tower Dining has a scanning station next to the elevators. After the container has been scanned, it can be placed on the tray return.
