Center for Foreign Languages and Cultures

The Center for Foreign Languages and Cultures functions as a multimedia language laboratory and computer lab. It is open for use by all members of the university community, though language students and faculty are given priority access to computers and other equipment during times of peak usage.

When classes are in session, the lab is open during the following hours:

Available Resources

A variety of equipment, facilities and services are available in the language lab, including the following:

  • 25 Gateway E-Series computers equipped with 750 MB zip drives, floppy drives, CD-ROM and earphones.
  • E-print and copying services available with your Panther Card.
  • 30 cassette listening stations.
  • Six VHS VCR machines and monitors for individual or group viewing.
  • Multiple format video tape viewing facilities.
  • Five DVD players and monitors.
  • Two multiple format DVD players with monitors.
  • Cable television for viewing foreign news and entertainment programs from SCOLA,
  • reading and study areas with foreign periodicals in French, German and Spanish.

In addition, photo and slide scanning, high-speed cassette duplicating, video tape duplicating and format conversion services are available through the lab.

At the south end of the facility you will find an area dedicated to study abroad. This area contains three computers to which students wishing to do study abroad-related Web browsing are given priority access. In addition, you will find a well-stocked library of literature pertaining to study abroad programs and opportunities.
