Early Alert System(EAS) Tips for EAS Submit to EAS or NOT? EAS is a system developed by the Committee on Retention Efforts (CORE) to provide a simple means to identify academically at-risk students early in their academic careers and to direct them to needed support services. Your first response as an instructor should be to reach out to a student who is struggling or has missed classes. This quick guide should help you determine whether an EAS report may also be necessary. 1. Your first response should be to contact the student directly before submitting an Early Alert. 2. Based on your decision whether a report is appropriate, submit your EAS report as soon as possible. 3. Provide thorough and complete details about the student, their situation, and the steps you have taken prior to submitting the EAS report. 4. Monitor the progress of your report in the EAS system. 5. If you suspect the student might be at-risk for other reasons, such as their mental health or are in distress, please make an appropriate referral to the Student Support Team (https://www.eiu.edu/judicial/stusupportteam.php).
