EIU Curriculum Approval

IBHE (Illinois Board of Higher Education) Forms

Before proceeding, please:

  • See the "Definitions for Approval of New Programs and Reasonable and Moderate Extension Requests."
  • Find a CIP (Classification of Instructional Programs) code here: https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/.
  • Check the deadlines on the IBHE Academic Affairs calendar.
  • Revising a Program

If you are proposing to revise an existing degree program, you will need to fill out the RME form (Word, PDF). This is called a "reasonable and moderate extension" and differs from the proposal of an entirely new degree program. Please see this RME sample (Word, PDF) for the BAAS degree in Emergency Management.

Use this form when you are seeking approval from the IBHE to elevate an existing option to a stand-alone degree program, to change a program’s degree designation, to create a new post-baccalaureate certificate program, to offer an existing program at a new off-campus location out of EIU’s region, or to develop a new (but temporary) research or service center. NOTE: If your request is for a research or service center, please adapt the questions as appropriate.

If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Suzie Park at sapark@eiu.edu.

    Proposing a New Program

If you are proposing to create a new degree program, you will need to fill out a Public Universities’ In-Region New Degree Program Application to the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE). Please note that there are five parts to the application. Before submitting to the VPAA Office, please contact Dr. Suzie Park at sapark@eiu.edu.
