Students, you need to start preparing for commencement long before the big day arrives, so be sure to check this page for details on applying for graduation, ordering caps and gowns, picking up guest tickets, and more.

Graduation Announcements

Graduation announcement purchases can be made online at Herff-Jones.

Ceremony DVD

WEIU, a service of Eastern Illinois University, produces a professional, multi-camera production of each graduation ceremony. Copies can be ordered the day of the ceremony or by downloading the form below. Copies will be mailed 4 to 6 weeks after graduation. Past graduation ceremony DVD's are available as well and are listed on the downloadable form.

The cost is $25 each and $10 each for any additional copies. DVDs can also be purchased at the WEIU online store at www.weiu.net.

Cap and Gown Rental

You must rent a cap and gown from our preferred vendor, Herff Jones. Renting your cap and gown indicates that you plan to participate in commencement ceremonies.

Cap and gown rental orders can be placed online at Herff-Jones. Do not order cap and gown if you have not applied to graduate (PAWS) or to participate by Exception (Deadline: March 25).

Graduates with Special Needs

If you are a graduate with special needs please contact Alumni Services immediately to make necessary arrangements at 217-581-6892.

Special Needs Guests

Tickets for special needs guest seating will be available. Please let us know if you need special needs tickets when you pick up your tickets. If you have any questions, please call Alumni Services at 217-581-6892. Guests will be responsible for bringing any special equipment (wheelchair, walker, etc.) they may need.

Special Needs Parking

Permanent on-campus spaces are designated for persons with disabilities.

Hearing Impaired Guests or Graduates

A sign language interpreter will be located near the stage. Tickets for special seating will be available. Please call Alumni Services for more information at 217-581-6892. Hearing assist receivers (Frequency 72.900 MHZ Wideband) will be available at the First Aid Station.

Commencement Tickets

Ticket Availability

  • 9 a.m. - 7 Tickets
  • 12 p.m. - 7 Tickets
  • 3 p.m. - 7 Tickets
  • 6 p.m. - 7 Tickets

Extra Ticket Availability

It's possible extra tickets may be available, but that decision will not be made until the week of the ceremony. There is no guarantee that extra tickets will be available.

Ticket Distribution

May 6-8, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Arcola-Tuscola Room, MLK Union

For those graduates who are not taking classes on campus and/or cannot be on campus for ticket distribution please email a ticket request, including your name, e-number and major, to Ms. Marty Hackler at mlhackler@eiu.edu. The tickets will then be held for pick up on Commencement Day.

You must present ID when picking up your allotted guest tickets. NO ADMITTANCE WILL BE ALLOWED WITHOUT A TICKET.

If the graduate cannot be on campus until Commencement Day, he/she can pick up his/her cap and gown in the Field House of Lantz Arena on Commencement Day.
