Students, you need to start preparing for commencement long before the big day arrives, so be sure to check this page for details on applying for graduation, ordering caps and gowns, picking up guest tickets, and more.
Click here to order announcements from Herff Jones. Be sure to choose "Eastern Illinois University" from the first drop down menu.
Ninth Street Productions, a service of WEIU-TV produces a professional, multi-camera production of each graduation ceremony. Copies can be ordered the day of the ceremony or by downloading the form below. Copies will be mailed 4 to 6 weeks after graduation. Past graduation ceremony DVD's are available as well and are listed on the downloadable form.
The cost is $25 each and $10 each for any additional copies. DVDs can also be purchased at the WEIU online store at www.weiu.net.
Only students who meet one of the following criteria may order cap and gown:
To order your cap and gown, visit Herff Jones. Be sure to choose "Eastern Illinois University" as your school. Please note, the Herff Jones online ordering will close after Nov. 15. If you need to order a cap and gown after that time, please contact us at 217-581-6892.
This is a rental not a purchase. The tassel that comes with the unit is yours to keep so do not order a "Souvenir Tassel" unless you want two.
If you are a graduate with special needs please contact Alumni Services immediately to make necessary arrangements at 217-581-6892.
Tickets for special needs guest seating will be available. Please let us know if you need special needs tickets when you pick up your tickets. If you have any questions, please call Alumni Services at 217-581-6892. Guests will be responsible for bringing any special equipment (wheelchair, walker, etc.) they may need.
Permanent on-campus spaces are designated for persons with disabilities.
A sign language interpreter will be located near the stage. Tickets for special seating will be available. Please call Alumni Services for more information at 217-581-6892. Hearing assist receivers (Frequency 72.900 MHZ Wideband) will be available at the First Aid Station.
Please see the Alumni Services "Charleston" page for a listing of local hotels and restaurants.
Each graduate that is walking through their ceremony will be given seven (7) guest tickets.
It is possible that there may be extra tickets. Information about extras will be posted on this web page when that information is available, most likely the week before commencement.
You must present ID and sign for your allotted guest tickets. NO ADMITTANCE WILL BE ALLOWED WITHOUT A TICKET.
For those graduates who are not taking classes on campus and/or cannot be on campus for ticket distribution please e-mail a ticket request, including your name, e-number and major, to Marty Hackler at mlhackler@eiu.edu.
