Assessment Research and Instruments

http://www.ericae.net/   The ERIC Clearinghouse for Assessment gathers print sources on assessment, including research-based presentations, journal articles, and books. This site also includes the Test Locator, which allows faculty and researchers to search for testing instruments using key words.

http://www.ets.org/  The Educational Testing Services (ETS) website offers information about its higher education assessment instruments, including general education instruments, major field tests, and course evaluations.

http://www.act.org  The ACT website provides information about its testing and placement instruments, including COMPASS and ASSET, as well as their research and consulting programs.

http://www.aahe.org/assessment/assessnw.htm  The American Association of Higher Education’s Assessment Forum offers information on networking with other people interested in higher education assessment.   At this site you will learn about AAHE's products, annual conference, and additional sources for assessment.

http://www.ncacihe.org/  The North Central Association gives information on what accrediting teams will want.  NCA also gives information on its assessment levels.

http://www.chea.org/  The Council for Higher Education Accreditation offers information on assessment and accreditation, including a section on good practices.

http://www.nchems.org/  The National Center for Higher Education Management Systems provides information and services on assessment management capabilities.

http://www.nces.ed.gov  The National Center for Education Statistics provides government-gathered statistics on American education.  It also offers a college locator at this site to assist in finding web resources on 9,000 postsecondary institutions.

http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/titles/02602938.asp Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education is a journal that focuses on these issues in postsecondary education.  The most recent issues’ table of contents are available on the web.

http://www.imir.iupui.edu/portfolio/  The Urban Universities Portfolio Project (UUPP) is a collaboration among six urban public universities to develop prototypes of electronic institutional portfolios. These portfolios provide information on each institution’s mission, objectives, and goals and how the institution measures and meets those goals and objectives.

http://assessment.truman.edu Truman State University has been involved in assessing student outcomes for decades.

Listservs & Forums

ASSESS-L is a listserv focusing on assessment in higher education.

• To subscribe, send an email message to the listserve at the University of Kentucky-Lexington. The message should say subscribe assess your-first-name your-last-name and have nothing in the Subject: line and no "signature" at the bottom.
• After subscribing, you may send the one-word message help to receive a list of commands to learn how to submit a note, respond, suspend email, and so forth.

The First-Year Assessment Listserv (FYA-L) focuses on evaluating students' experiences and success in the first year of college.
