State Certification Information
(Type 75 Certificate & Superintendent's Endorsement)
Our department and the Regional Offices of Education do not automatically start the certification process for students. Students must initiate and apply for their Illinois State Certification Type 75 or Superintendent's Endorsement.
Requirements for Certification
Master's in Educational Administration (M.S.) - Type 75 Certificate
- Successful completion of M.S. degree in Educational Administration or Type 75 coursework with
approved plan of study equivalent with previous M.S. degree
- Two (2) years of full-time teaching or school service personnel experience in a certificated
position in K-12 schools
- Passing of state examination (Test 186 - Principal Test) to include the basic skills examination
(Test 096, Test 300)
Educational Specialist in Educational Administration (Ed.S.) - Superintendent's Endorsement
- Successful completion Ed.S. degree in Educational Administration
- Two (2) years of administrative or supervisory experience in K-12 schools
- Passing of state examination (Test 187 - Superintendent's Test)
APPLICATION PROCESSES
Effective June 20, 2012, the application process has changed. The new process is outlined below.
Current Students or Alumni Who Have Completed Requirements in the Past Three (3) Years
Students who have completed the degree requirements for certification in the past three years must complete the following forms:

After the forms have been completed, please send the original documents, error-free (no white-out or write-overs are accepted) to our department via postal mail (faxed copies will not be accepted).

Once the forms have been processed by the Department of Educational Leadership, the student's packet will be forwarded to the College of Education and Professional Studies for completion of the Entitlement Request. The Certification Officer will then send an email to the e-mail address entered on the Entitlement Request Form that the student's packet is ready for final completion online through the Educator Certification System website through the Illinois State Board of Education (http:/www.isbe.net/ecs).
Students are now responsible for sending their official transcripts to the Illinois State Board of Education. This includes any universities as to which transfer coursework has been applied toward the degree of completion or certification.

Students may request official transcripts through Eastern Illinois University by visiting the Registrar's website. For students earning either a Master's in Educational Administration/Leadership or a Specialist Degree in Educational Administration, you must request official transcripts after your degree has been posted. Ensure that you mark "AFTER GRADUATION IS POSTED" and the "SEMESTER/YEAR" of Graduation on your transcript request form. Students who do not mark the appropriate box will need to request another transcript before certificates will be issued.

Students must have also passed the required State Examinations for Certification (Test 096 or Test 300 - Basic Skills Examination; Test 186 - Principal Examination or Test 187 - Superintendent's Examination). See below for test dates and registration information.

Alumni Who Have Completed Requirements Beyond Three (3) Years
Students who have completed the degree requirements for certification in the beyond three years must complete the following forms:

2. State-Approved Program Verification Form (ISBE 73-05 Form) click here
