Department of Educational Leadership

Students must also pass the required State Examiniation for certification (see below for registration information).
For Type 75 Certification - Students who have had previous coursework outside of EIU must submit an "official" transcript from colleges/universities to the Educational Leadership Department to verify transfer coursework.
For Ed.S./Superintendent Certification - Students who have Master's degrees from other colleges/universities outside of EIU must submit an official transcript to the Educational Leadership Department to verify previous MS degree for certification purposes.
Once all degrees/grades have been posted to EIU transcript, the department will process the certification packet. A signature page from our department will be added to verify that certification requirements have been met (i.e., coursework, state examinations, teacher/administrative experience). The packet is then forwarded to the College of Education, Dean's Office. Information is entered into the state's computer system and a certificate number is issued. The original certification packet is then returned to the student via postal mail (address as to which student entered on State Application Form). The student will then take the certification packet to their Regional Office of Education (ROE) with a check for $30.00 to complete the processing. Depending on the ROE, the certificate will either be printed onsite or the packet is sent off for certificate printing. Please note that the College of Education, Dean's Office has a 21-day turn around for the processing of certification packets.
Additional questions about applying for state certification may be directed to Shannon Schwab, Office Manager, Department of Educational Leadership at 217-581-2919 or by email at syschwab@eiu.edu.
