Fall 2018 PLAY After-School Program Sites

Our office offers 6 different PLAY (Positive Learning for Active Youth) after school programs that our EIU Panthers provide the person power for. We are looking for volunteers who can make a weekly 2-hour commitment for 10 weeks during the semester. As a PLAY volunteer, you have the opportunity to be a mentor to local elementary aged kids, help them with their homework, act as a role model and build genuine relationships with kids who need a positive connection with an adult! See below for site descriptions, days and times! Please visit the application or email volunteer@eiu.edu with any questions you may have!

YOUNG ATHLETES
(Mark Twain Elementary School, Mondays and Wednesdays 1:50-3:20, grades Pre-K and Kindergarten)

Young Athletes is an innovative sports play program for children ages 2-7 with intellectual disabilities and their peers, designed to introduce them into the world of sports. The Young Athletes program is designed to address various specific levels of play, including physical activities focused on developing fundamental motor tracking and eye-hand coordination. Our program is modeled on the Special Olympic Young Athlete program, and more detail can be found here: http://www.soill.org/young-athletes/

FIT-2-SERVE: FARM-2-TABLE
(Fridays 11:10am-1:20pm, 1st grade students)

Join local first grade students as they come to the Fit-2-Serve facility to participate in a 50 minute experiential learning environment that includes two sessions, one of which takes place in our Teaching Kitchen. Our goal is to help students learn how food, from farm to harvest gets to the store, on the table and into their tummy! Students participate in making a snack relevant to the topic. Curriculum and instructions are provided and volunteers do not need to have cooking or teaching experience.
