We are very excited about a new initiative we are going to roll out over the next 3 semesters. Our intent with this program, called Chasing the American Dream Series, is to educate and engage our students around current issues, societal shifts, ways to get involved regarding local and federal government, and the upcoming Presidential election. Starting in September 2019 we are going to launch the series and will offer a variety of programming once a week through the Thanksgiving Break.
One program we are going to offer each month will be a panel presentation, formatted after a Ted Talk. Each month will have a different topic but will follow the same format. We will have 3 speakers, and the first two will be informative, and the third speaker will be the call to action, or what can you do about to impact this issue. And the first 50 people who register here to join us for each presentation, will get to eat a meal FOR FREE!
Tues. 11/5: EIU’s panel presentation formatted after a Ted Talk! Join us for a free meal (to the first 50 who register) and to learn from 3 speakers to cover topics including "History of voter suppression", "What is gerrymandering", and "What does being a registered and active voter look like?" Each speaker has 10 minutes to help you learn more about our world, issues in our country, and what you can do about that! Register to join us here! Doors open at 5:30pm, 5:45-6:45pm, University Ballroom, MLK Union
Tues. 11/12: I-Civics Game Night: Join us to play Do I have a right? This interactive video game will have you running your own firm of lawyers who specialize in constitutional law. Decide if potential clients have a right, match them with the best lawyer, and win the case. The more clients you serve and the more cases you win, the faster your law firm grows. 6-7pm, Library Computer Lab
