EIU Welcome Weekend

Fall Semester Checklist

The following checklist has been developed to help you keep track of all the key tasks that will help you make a smooth transition to EIU during your first semester on campus.

Prior to Semester Beginning:

  • Submit your Medical History form to the Health Service Office by August 1 (if the form is not submitted your ability to register for courses will be restricted)

Wednesday or Thursday Before Classes Begin:

  • Move into residence halls

  • Secure parking permit through University Police Department in person or online through PAWS

  • Download the Mobile App "EIU Panther Life" through iTunes or Google Play to stay on track with Prowl and Campus Events 

Friday Before Classes Begin:

    • Welcome Weekend: Check-in is at 9:00 AM at O'Brien Stadium

    • New Student Photo & T-Shirt Giveaway
    • Freshmen: Small Group Meeting
    • Transfers: Transfer Connections Sessions
    • College Meetings
    • Welcome Picnic
    • School of the Arts Orientation
    • Student Veteran Social
    • First Generation Student Welcome
    • Up All Night
  • Secure textbooks at Textbook Rental

Saturday Before Classes Begin:

  • Jumpstart: Check-in begins at 9:00 AM

  • Find your classes tour

  • Quakin’ the Quad

  • Print out an updated version of your class schedule two days prior to the beginning of the semester

Sunday Before Classes Begin:

  • Using your updated schedule, locate where your classes are held 

  • LGBTQA+ Student and Supporters Reception

  • Residence Hall Floor/All Hall Meetings

  • Convocation

  • First Night

  • Complete AlcoholEdu Part 1 prior to first day of class

First  & Second Week Of The Semester:

  • Confirm you are on the class roster for each class you are enrolled

  • Check the Academic Calendar for important dates and the web for official notices

  • Check with your adviser prior to adjusting (adding/dropping) your course schedule

  • Attend the Student Involvement Fair

September:

  • Confirm your final advisor assignment and make an appointment

  • Confirm your final transcript has arrived at the Office of the Registrar

  • Invite your family to attend Family Weekend in September

  • Attend the Study Abroad Fair

  • Check the Academic Calendar for important dates and the Web for official notices

  • Attend Family Weekend events

October:

  • Begin looking at classes available for next semester. Check PAWS for course listings

  • Meet with your advisor to discuss spring course selection and register for Spring courses.

  • Attend the Job & Internship Fair

  • Check the Academic Calendar for important dates and the web for official notices

  • Prepare for Mid-Term Exams

  • Attend Homecoming events

November:

  • Check the Academic Calendar for important dates and the web for official notices

  • Plan for Thanksgiving Break

December:

  • FINALS WEEK!

  • Check PAWS for fall grades Tuesday after finals

 

Check Your Panthermail!

It is vital that you check your EIU e-mail.  You will find the link to Panthermail on the front page of the EIU website.  Important communications from the University will be sent to this account.  You are responsible for these official communications.  You will receive communications from the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, your faculty, and many more.
