How do I create a group chat/conference?

Skype for Business allows you to instant message several people at once in a group chat or conference.

To start an IM conversation with more than one of your contacts, do the following:

  • If the people you want to send the instant message to appear as adjacent contacts in your Contacts list, press and hold the Shift key while you click the listing for each person. Then, click the IM icon that appears next to the last contact you select, type your message at bottom of the conversation window, and pressEnter.

  • If the people you want to send the instant message to appear in the list as contacts who aren’t adjacent, press and hold the Ctrl key while you click each contact. Then, click the IM icon, type your message at bottom of the conversation window, and press Enter. Your message will go to all the people you’ve selected.

To create a new group chat/conference:

  1. Right-click the group name in your Contacts list
  2. Click Send an Instant Message
  3. Type your message at the bottom of the conversation window
  4. Press Enter and your message will go to all group members.

To create a new contact group in Skype for Business:

  1. In the Skype for Business main window, in your Contacts view, click the Add a contact icon Add a contact, then click Create a New Group.

  2. In the space that now opens up at the bottom of the window, type over the phrase New Group to give your group a descriptive name.
