Eastern Illinois University offers many unique opportunities for Sport Management students.
The Sport Immersion Field Trip will allow students the opportunity to travel to view sport industry venues and museums off campus as part of their educational learning experience. Not only will students be able to view the venues, but they will also be able to meet professionals within the organizations in which they hope to find jobs. The Student Sport Immersion Field Trip will be hosted by the Kinesiology and Sport Studies Department and Sport Management students who are Junior, Senior or Graduate status will be eligible to attend.
The Women’s Round Table is designed to bring prominent female sport industry professionals on campus to speak to EIU students who are interested in working in the sport industry. Topics covered will be gender-specific, and will focus on ways to overcome both perceived and real barriers that women face in the sport industry. The Women’s Round Table will be hosted by the Kinesiology and Sport Studies Department but will be open to any students and the community.
Our students have first hand experience with event management of the Area 9 East Central Illinois Special Olympics, held at O'Brien Stadium in the Spring each year. Area 9 was founded in 1979 and provides programming for people in the counties of Clark, Clay, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence, Richland and Shelby.
Our students have also been very active in the organization and planning of the East Central Illinois Girls on the Run 5K Events. Specifically, the Sport Management Club has been in charge of the Celebration area. Students were involved in the recruitment, participation, and management of the events that occur on race day.
