Graduation Requirements for Counseling and Higher Education

All counseling students are required to complete four steps to graduate from the CHE program. See below for the specific steps for each program track.  

School Counseling Track

  1. Pass the departmental comprehensive examination.
  1. Pass the state certification exam required for school counselors.
  2. Remain in Good Standing determined by the Student Review throughout the program.
  3. Complete the Internship Presentation during School Supervised Experience (6921).

Clinical Counseling Track

  1. Pass the departmental comprehensive examination.
  1. Pass the NCE.
  2. Remain in Good Standing determined by the Student Review throughout the program.
  3. Complete the Internship Presentation during Supervised Experience (6901).

Hooding Ceremony

The Hooding Ceremony serves as a moment to recognize, congratulate, and celebrate the graduating students of the Department of Counseling and Higher Education. These graduates represent the Master of Science programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, College Student Affairs, and Higher Education and Community College. 

These graduates have grown both professionally and personally throughout the past few years. The graduates have presented at conferences, led professional organizations, and have been awarded grants, scholarships and fellowships all while fostering long lasting relationships and managing busy schedules. The graduates have worked diligently in this time to successfully complete hundreds of hours of internship, theses and capstone projects. All effort put in and knowledge gained has led them to this special moment.
