The primary mission of the Department of Africana Studies is to provide an exceptional education to both undergraduate and graduate students.
The Minor In Africana Studies program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum with a wide range of course offerings in three categories: introductory, intermediate and advanced. Courses can include history, political science, psychology, art, theatre, literature, music, journalism, social sciences and geography. These courses reflect and provide insight into the experiences of people of African descent.
There is a study abroad program to South Africa with additional programs under development. Contact the Minor In Africana Studies Department or the Office of Study Abroad for more information.
The Minor In Africana Studies program provides students with a liberal arts education which enables them to develop abilities and think critically and equips them with values and knowledge they can use to improve the human condition. The program seeks to educate students not to succumb to the world as it is, but to transform society as they dream it to be.
