Maintenance

FPM’s Maintenance and Operations Group is responsible for all day-to-day maintenance and repair across Eastern Illinois University’s 350 acres and more then 100 buildings. This group is comprised of “Work Control” and eight skilled trade shops including:

  • HVAC & Mechanical
  • Carpentry
  • Grounds
  • Roofing and Waterproofing
  • Painting and Resurfacing
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical
  • Controls Operations
  • Maintenance Services Shop, which handles asbestos abatement, hazardous waste removal, and other labor needs.

FPM Shops

Below is the contact information for our shops. To report repairs or emergencies, contact Work Control either by telephone (217-581-3416), or by e-mail at eiumaint@eiu.edu. Please use this link to help us insure that your work request needs are properly routed.

Work Control
Work Control is responsible for insuring work requests are dispatched to the proper shop. Work Control can be contacted by telephone at 217-581-3416 ext. No. 1 for emergencies, No. 2 for elevator calls, No. 3 to leave a voicemail, or e-mail: eiumaint@eiu.edu. Voicemail and E-mail should only be used for non-emergency requests.

Work Control hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. After-hours calls are automatically transferred to an answering service, which will dispatch emergencies to on-call personnel. Please use this link to help us insure that your work request needs are properly routed. 

The supervisor of Work Control is Mike Carter, Jr.

HVAC & Mechanical 
HVAC & Mechanical is responsible for maintaining steam distribution throughout campus buildings, maintaining building temperature control, and maintaining swimming pool chemistry and equipment. This department is also responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment, and maintenance of food service equipment.

The foreman for the HVAC & Mechanical shop is Allen Kistner.

Carpentry
The carpentry shop is responsible for maintenance on all aspects of carpentry work, including:

  • Repair/replacement of broken door hardware.
  • Wall repair.
  • Boarding up of broken windows.
  • Repair/replacement of cores/locks.
  • Repair/replacement of ceiling and floor tile.
  • Furniture repairs and assembly.

The foreman for the carpentry shop is John Bailey.

Grounds
The grounds shop is responsible for the maintenance of the campus grounds, including:

  • Mowing
  • Seeding
  • Fertilizing
  • Watering Lawns
  • Maintaining Trees, Shrubbery, and Flowers

In addition, this department is responsible for the maintenance of campus streets, sidewalks (including snow removal), and trash removal. The EIU Grounds Superintendent is Justin Perry.

Roofing and Waterproofing
The roofing shop is responsible for the general maintenance,alterations, and repairs to the university roofs including:

  • Gutters
  • Downspouts
  • Waterproofing foundations, footings and decks.
  • Removes snow ice dams and icicles

The foreman for the Roofing shop is Mike Carter, Jr.

Painting and Resurfacing
The paint shop is responsible for paint and resurfacing maintenance on campus including:

  • All scheduled painting of interior and exterior walls and ceiling
  • campus signage
  • Windows
  • Glazing repairs

The foreman for the paint shop is Jason Jacobs.

Plumbing
The plumbing shop is responsible for maintenance on all plumbing needs on campus including:

  • Sanitary drains
  • Gas lines
  • Storm drains
  • Gas fired equipment in food services(pilot lights).
  • Domestic water systems throughout campus.

The foreman for the plumbing shop is Al Haga.

Electrical
The Electrical shop is responsible for maintenance of all electrical and lighting systems on campus.

  • Repair/replacement of inoperative light fixtures
  • Electrical wiring
  • Exterior campus lighting
  • Replacement of HID and mercury vapor lamps
  • Campus clock system and campus fire alarm systems.

The foreman for the electric shop is Chris Bartlett.

Controls Operations
The Controls Operations group is responsible for managing the “Andover Building Automation system” , temperature controls, REC instrumentation maintenance and calibration, campus wide instrumentation maintenance and calibration, and various facilities preventative maintenance work.

The supervisor for this shop is Ron Peadro
