Maintenance
FPM’s “Maintenance & Operations Group” is responsible for all day to day maintenance and repair across Eastern Illinois University’s 350 acres and more then 100 buildings. This group is comprised of “Work Control” and 8 skilled trade shops including Environmental Control, Carpentry, Grounds & Recycling, Roofing & Waterproofing, Painting & Resurfacing, Plumbing, Electrical, and the Maintenance Services shop handling asbestos abatement, hazardous waste removal and other labor needs. Work Control
Work Control is responsible for insuring work requests are dispatched to the proper shop. Work Control can be contacted by telephone at 581-3416 ext #1 for emergencies, #2 for elevator calls, #3 to leave a voicemail, or e-mail: eiumaint@eiu.edu. Voicemail and e-mail should only be used for non-emergency requests. Work Control hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. After hours calls are automatically transferred to an answering service which will dispatch emergencies to on-call personnel. Environmental Control
Environmental Control is responsible for maintaining steam distribution throughout campus buildings, maintaining building temperature control, and maintaining swimming pool chemistry and equipment. This department is also responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment, and maintenance of food service equipment. The foreman for the EC shop is Rick Bagwell.
Carpentry
The Carpentry shop is responsible for maintenance on all aspects of carpentry work, including: repair/replacement of broken door hardware, wall repair, boarding up of broken windows, repair/replacement of cores/locks, repair/replacement of ceiling and floor tile, furniture repairs and assembly. The foreman for the Carpentry shop is John Bailey.
Grounds & Recycling
The Grounds shop is responsible for the maintenance of the campus grounds, including: mowing, seeding, fertilizing, watering lawns, and maintaining trees, shrubbery, and flowers. In addition, this department is responsible for the maintenance of campus streets, sidewalks (including snow removal), recycling, and trash removal. The EIU Grounds Superintendent is Justin Perry.
Roofing & Waterproofing
The Roofing shop is responsible for the general maintenance, alterations, and repairs to the University roofs, gutters, downspouts and waterproofing associated with foundations, footings and decks. The Roofing Department also removes snow, ice dams and icicles that pose a safety hazard from roofs, gutters and adjacent structures. The foreman for the Roofing shop is Mike Carter, Jr.
Painting & Resurfacing
The Paint shop is responsible for maintenance of all scheduled painting of interior and exterior walls and ceilings, campus signage, windows and glazing repairs. The foreman for the Paint shop is Steve Pearcy.
Plumbing
The Plumbing shop is responsible for maintenance on all plumbing fixtures, sanitary drains, gas lines, storm drains, gas fired equipment in food services (pilot lights), and domestic water systems throughout campus. The foreman for the Plumbing shop is Tom Rennels.
Electrical
The Electrical shop is responsible for maintenance of all electrical and lighting systems on campus. This department is responsible for repair/replacement of inoperative light fixtures or electrical wiring, for the maintenance of the exterior campus lighting, replacement of HID and mercury vapor lamps, for the maintenance of the campus clock system and campus fire alarm systems. The foreman for the Electric shop is Al Green.
