KSS 4275 Field Experience
Description:
An individually planned work experience in a business, agency, or program appropriate to the student’s area of specialization. The internship experience is designed to familiarize students with both one's field of study as well as the process of obtaining employment.
Prerequisites:
1. Completion of all coursework for Kinesiology & Sports Studies degree - meet with your undergraduate advisor to determine your eligibility for an internship and whether you need to enroll in KSS 4275 for 6 credits (requires 240 hours of internship work experience) or 9 credits (requires 360 hours of internship work experience).
2. Submission of the Internship Proposal Form and the Internship Agreement to Dr Walker (after the agreement is finalized, Dr. Walker will enroll you in KSS 4275).
Please Note: An internship provides an excellent networking opportunity that could lead to full-time employment. It is expected that you will dress, speak, and act professionally at all times. Your professionalism will strongly influence the job opportunities you receive following your internship. You are receiving college credit for the internship and therefore, it should take priority over other commitments.

Steps to successfully landing and completing an internship:
- Meet with your academic advisor to be sure that you are qualified to take an internship for academic credit and determine the number of internship credit hours. YOUR ADVISOR WILL REQUIRE A DEGREE AUDIT.
- Find agencies that offer internships related to your field of study. A list of possible internship sites can be found by clicking here (the link is a Microsoft Excel file). You can also contact any agency where you would like to do an internship. Most places are very willing to offer internships to college students. Check their web sites or call their main office and ask if they offer internships. Be proactive.
- Call, visit, or email the agency to request an interview. Update and proof read your resume. Contact EIU Career Services for additional help with resumes, cover letters, or interviewing.
