Making an Appointment

Who's Eligible for Services?

All full-time undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at Eastern Illinois University are eligible to receive services at the Counseling Center. Services are free, voluntary, and confidential.

How Do I Make an Appointment?
Appointments may be arranged by calling 581-3413 or by dropping by the first floor of the Human Services Building. Our receptionists will place you on an appropriate staff member's schedule. Appointments can normally be scheduled within a few days from your request but may take a few weeks during the Center's busiest times. Schedule adjustments are made, however, in emergency situations.

What Else Do I Need to Know?
With the exception of the Group Counseling Program, the Counseling Center's appointments are set up on an hourly basis. Appointments are normally scheduled between 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students often meet with their counselors on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis.

How Do I Get Started?
During your first meeting, a counselor will ask you to describe your concerns and what you would like to gain from counseling. Some students find that this initial appointment is all they need to explore and clarify their feelings and options. If you and your counselor decide that additional services would be beneficial, he or she will talk with you about how the Center can provide the kind of help you need and which staff member or group would be most appropriate for you. When the Center is unable to provide the type of service you need or request, we will refer you to an appropriate outside agency.
