This comic opera in one act by Giacomo Puccini was composed in 1917–18. The libretto is based on an incident mentioned in Dante's Divine Comedy. The work is the third and final part of Puccini's Il trittico (The Triptych). Gianni Schicci's aria "O mio babbino caro" is one of Puccini's best known, and one of the most popular arias in opera.

As Buoso Donati lies dead, his relatives gather round to mourn his passing. However, they are really more interested in learning the contents of his will. Soon after his death a rumor is started that Buoso has left everything to a monastery; this disturbs the others and precipitates a frantic and comedic search for the will.

Gianni Schicci will be sung in its original Italian and interpreted through dance for the audience by the EIU dancers.  This unique collaboration will bring to life this Opera in a way never before seen.  Come laugh and see what is sure to be one of the most beautiful and stunning Operas ever produced at EIU!!!
