Transitioning from military life to college can be challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone. Veteran Connection is designed to help student veterans successfully navigate their first year at Eastern Illinois University by pairing them with experienced peers who understand campus life and the unique needs of student veterans.
WHAT YOU’LL GAIN
- Peer Support: Connect with other student veterans and mentors who have walked the path before you.
- Practical Guidance: Learn strategies for managing classes, balancing responsibilities, and accessing campus resources.
- Community Building: Make friends, join veteran-friendly organizations, and feel at home on campus.
- Financial Navigation: Get tips on using VA benefits, scholarships, and budgeting for college life.
- Personal Growth: Build confidence and leadership skills as you transition into academic success.
HOW IT WORKS
- You’ll be paired with a trained mentor who is a student veteran who has successfully navigated the transition into higher education.
- Meet weekly for conversation and a free meal through the Fall and Spring terms.
- Have the opportunity to participate in events organized just for the program.
