Adhering to rules in effect in the State of Illinois, we will be unable to hold the university’s December 2020 Commencement ceremonies.
You have worked hard to obtain your degree and we couldn't be any prouder of the Class of 2020 for your achievements in and outside of the classroom. We understand your disappointment but hope to recognize your accomplishments in other ways, including through a virtual celebration on Saturday, December 19.
All eligible fall 2020 graduates will receive their EIU diplomas, diploma covers, graduation programs and, as appropriate, honors medallions in the mail shortly after the end of the semester if all university and programmatic requirements are met. Those will be mailed approximately six weeks after grades are finalized. We also encourage and welcome graduates to participate in the spring 2021 ceremony, which is scheduled for SATURDAY, MAY 8, 2021.
Cap and Gown: Even though the ceremony will not be held, many students and their families may wish to rent a cap and gown for photos or family events. Graduates may order caps and gowns, which will be shipped directly to your homes, through Herff Jones.
Contact Information: Please fill out this form so we can stay connected – including keeping you updated on plans for the May commencement ceremony – and you can receive your diploma.
Questions or Additional Information: If you have questions about any commencement-related items, please call us at 217-581-6616 or you may email Amber May at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Commencement is one of the most exciting events of the year at Eastern Illinois University — and for the graduates and families involved, it's also one of the most memorable.
EIU hosts two annual commencements, at the end of the spring and fall semesters. Those graduating at the end of the summer semester are included in the fall ceremonies. If summer graduates wish to participate in the spring ceremonies, they should contact their college Dean’s office to request to participate by exceptionality.
Students: Visit the Before Commencement page for step-by-step instructions on what you must do to prepare to participate in the upcoming ceremonies.
