The Office of Financial Aid is located between the MLK Union and Old Main, in the east wing Student Services Building.
For Financial Aid purposes, an Academic Year is defined as 30 credit hours during a 30 week period. Financial aid disbursements are based on the hours you are attending.
Financial Aid Information available on PAWS
- Log on to find out the status of your financial aid file and your award
information. Review your financial aid in PAWS often for changes in your financial aid due to hours revisions, and inclusion of other aid or resources. Only your original award letter, changes to your expected family contribution, and new offers of aid requiring signatures will be mailed to you.
How To See If Your Financial Aid Has Disbursed

6. Disbursed amount will show in "Paid to date" column

Federal Loan Exit Counseling Requirements
All graduating students and students transferring or withdrawing who received Federal Stafford Direct Loans are required by the federal
government to complete exit loan counseling. This can be completed on-line
, or in the office by appointment.
Hours Revisions
In order for your aid to disburse your financial aid file must match
the number of hours in which you are enrolled. All undergraduate students were packaged at 15 on campus hours and graduate students packaged at 12 on campus hours. If
the hours do not match, you will need to complete the Status
Change Form on-line or stop by the office to complete an hours
revision form. Do not complete either form until you are officially enrolled
in the courses. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact

Short Term Loan Interviews
The first day for Fall 2008 short term loan interviews is September
8, 2008. Please be advised we do not perform short term loan interviews
when classes are not in session or until after the first 10 days of the
beginning of the Spring semester.
Disbursement Schedule
First disbursement for each semester occurs on Monday night after the
semester begins.
Provided your financial aid file is 100% complete, your aid will be disbursed
to your student account. You can check the PAWS
system to confirm that your aid has disbursed. If you have
a refund, the Student Accounts Office is responsible for producing and
distributing the refund checks. Refunds can be automatically deposited into your bank account. You may sign up for Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) for account refunds at Student Accounts, Old Main.
Common Reasons Aid does not disburse
- Number of enrolled hours does not match the
number of hours packaged for financial aid
- Disbursement Authorization Form has not been returned to our office
- Grade class reported on FAFSA does not match records
- Attendance in Continuing Education courses must be verified
- Selective Service Card
not completed
- Missing and/or incomplete Promissory Note for loan
- Satisfactory
Progress Requirements not satisfied
- Entrance Counseling
not completed for first time Federal Loan borrower
Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA)

Complete and submit a
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as
possible after January 1st of a students senior year of high school. For
continuing college students a Renewal application must be completed as
soon after January 1st prior to the upcoming academic year. List Eastern
Illinois University (school code 001674) in the top 3 for the school choices.
Our priority filing date is March 1st.
We strongly encourage you to file the FAFSA or renewal FAFSA electronically
because it is the fastest and easiest way to complete the FAFSA. The on-line
FAFSA edits your data as it is entered, which prevents invalid
responses from being submitted and it provides immediate feedback.
Students and parents of dependent students may request a Personal Identification
Number (PIN) which is used as an electronic signature. To request your
pin, go to http://www.pin.ed.gov.
Parents and students may request their PIN now in order to have it available
when the FAFSA is completed.

The deadline to apply for a waiver of Student Health Insurance fee for Summer 09 is
June 22, 2009 . Stop by the Office of Financial
Aid, Student Health Insurance section to complete a Waiver
Form (pdf). You must provide proof of better or equal
coverage. If you have any questions, please contact our office @

Department of Education-Federal Direct Loan Information
The Department of Education offers current and past student loan borrowers
access to their loan account information. Students can review their loan
account and even change their address using their pin number. They also
provide up-to-date information regarding interest rate rebates and reductions.
